How to balance study and work

Have you ever felt like giving up because you’re drowning in work? Most students have experienced that multiple times! We know how hard it is to find time to study, to make some money working in a part-time job and still have a social life. Combining all of these can be hard, but there are many ways to make your life easier!

This is one of the most important things when it comes to finding motivation! When you’re studying something you find interesting, it’s easier for you to concentrate when it comes down to doing the actual studying for the exams, besides making your whole time at university a lot easier.

If you’re looking for a part-time job, try to find one that’s related to your studies. This way, you can extend your learning even more, and put your gained knowledge into practice. But even if you find an excellent opportunity, be honest with your boss and tell him that studying comes first.

Let’s face it, there’re only a certain number of hours in a day. There’s going to be times that the school will require your focus, and employers will expect you to work extra hours. Be honest with your employer about the amount of work you can take on, and make sure you prioritise your studies.

Working in a structured and organized way is something that everyone must do. We also know it can be hard to do it when we are very busy.

But we highly suggest you give it a try! You can use an agenda, planner, to do list or even an online program to keep track of your tasks, such as

It will benefit you in many different ways. You can quickly check what your priority tasks are, making your life less stressful and your days way more productive!

Be realistic with the decisions you make. Make sure that what you are doing and the deadlines are reachable. Do not let anyone pressure you or make you do things you would rather not do. It is better to do less with a better outcome than to do many different things without actually focusing on any of them. Quality is more important than quantity!

You should also take care of yourself! Use your spare time to hang with your friends, get some rest and treat yourself. Keep in mind that without any enjoyment, you will not be able to keep working and deal with stress.

If you are really struggling without knowing what to do, just ask people for some advice! Ask your best friends, colleagues, teachers and even your mom. They see things from a different perspective, which might be very helpful!

All in all, make sure to study a topic that is of your interest, be realistic in what you think you can handle and treat yourself every once in a while. You deserve it!
